I’ve had a checked flannel shirt of my mums in a box since she died 8 years ago, not my style but didn’t want to part with it, you’ve just given me the idea to replace the lining of a leather jacket with it (not me, I’ll send it off, I know my limits!) thank you 😊

Darned a beloved jumper myself that I fortunately found a moth hole in - not a perfect job by any means, but I’ve worn it more this month than the past two years and it feels good to be back wearing a favourite piece!

I'm giving my first darn a go this weekend. I love my jumpers so much, they are like old friends that really take care of you

Started on my own Rule of 5 in Belize. All we get here are tourist tshirts and bales of clothing crap from the US. Shouldn't be too hard. Keep up the good work, cheers Ruth

So great to hear, congrats! Although not about the tourist t-shirts :(

Any good local craft? Could you upcycle a tourist t with some cool Carribbean graffiti?!

Fabulous article!! I mended the torn lining of my second-hand pink Barbour jacket last year and, while my stitching wasn't expert by any means, I feel great knowing I can now wear it around without damaging it further. I'll have to check out some of these services and keep them in mind for repairs I'm not yet able to do myself. 🖤

A pink Barbour? I want to see that! You can also have them rewaxed to keep them waterproof. I love Barbours - they are real lifetime investments and very stylish

Great post but the app seems only to have services in the UK 👀

I know Ewalina I'm sorry - was hoping to crowd source some international ones from the group- let me know if you come across any. Otherwise here's hoping you have some good local resource

These are all great ideas. For those looking for these resources in the US, Emilia Petrarcha is doing a month long repair series on her Shop Rat newsletter. She started a shared doc for readers to share seamstresses, cobblers, etc ~ https://open.substack.com/pub/emiliapetrarca/p/introducing-repair-month?r=2hhrg&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post

Does anyone have a recommendation for shoe repair in the UK? The zipper on my Anine Bing ankle boots (bought pre-loved from Vestiaire!) fell apart last week and I don’t want to use one of my five to replace them 🥲

Do you live in London? If so I can share the place all the designers send their shoes: Classic Shoe Repairs in north london. They are excellent. If it's UK try the Seam - they can do amazing things with shoes (check out this video https://www.instagram.com/reel/C1eeARuomYf/?igsh=MXM4ZGgxbzk4ZnRyOA==£

Any recommendations on what I should do with a fabulous green dress that I accidentally left to dry out in the sun too long?

Or you could embroider over sun spots, change the sleeves and the length.... if you love it, save it!

It’s sun stained in some spots :(

Could you dye it a darker colour? Depending on the material a darker dye should take. I’ve used Dylon before and had good results x

Love all these ideas! It’s a great dress!! I can’t just let it go!

It could dye unevenly so you need to test the area before you commit. Depending on fabric could you embroidery it, or get fabric that has flowers or something and cut out images you don’t want and sew it (flowers or whatever) on to the sunspots?
